This tank serves as my mini shell-dweller tank. It's not much, but I enjoy it. The stand is homemade and also servers as a bookshelf. The tank has a couple small pieces of holey rock, 20+ lbs of silica sand (purchased from a pool & spa shop), and various live plants. The plants are Anubias barteri, Anubias nana, Java Fern, and Echinodorus amazonicus "Amazon Sword".
The tank's inhabitants are as follows: □ Cyprichromis leptosoma "Utinta" - 2 juv. male, 3 juv. females F1 □ Neolamprologus brevis "Orange Head - Katabe" - 1 pair F0 □ Neolamprologus occellatus "Gold" - 1 pair □ Neolamprologus leleupi - 1 subadult □ Ancistrus temminckii "Albino Bristlenose Pleco" - 2 For filtration, I use a Penguin BIO-Wheel 125 in addition to a homemade indwelling Wet/Dry Filter. It has two chambers -- the first has bio-balls and the second contains a Rio 180 submersible pump. Water is returned to the tank by the submersible pump through a PVC spraybar. The PVC pipe has been perforated with 1/8" holes from many different angles to create a unique current. I use a ProQuatics heater and for lighting, I used 2 - 12" T12 ColorMax bulbs (16 watts total) by Coralife. I also use Kent® Freshwater Plant once a week for fertilizer. AlgaeFix™ is used periodically to prevent string algae from taking over. Fish are fed Tetra® Spirulina Flakes 2-3 times a day. The photographs below represent the evolution of the tank over the last 12 months, displayed in descending order. |
